Panteia realizes 15 percent cost savings on IT with SLTN

Panteia is a leading and data-driven research and consulting firm that helps clients realize broad prosperity. In this broad prosperity, people are central. CBS calls it a “measure of everything people find of value. In addition to material prosperity, it also includes things like health, education, environment and living conditions, social cohesion, personal development and (in)safety.” With an ambitious and diverse team of researchers, consultants and data experts, Panteia delivers unique and applicable insights for solving tomorrow’s social issues.
Panteia has extensive experience with governments, non-profit organizations, industrial companies and international financial institutions, enabling them to make smart connections between policy and practice. Panteia asked SLTN to perform an analysis to reduce IT costs within their organization through smart innovations.
Rapid acquisition
Marcel Lepelaar is IT manager at Panteia. From his position, he worked closely with SLTN for the past 8 years. “We came into contact with SLTN because at that time we had an IT outsourcing party that was totally inadequate,” Marcel says. “At that time, SLTN was able to very quickly take over everything and get things running adequately so that our end users who are what it’s all about at the end of the day were happy again.”
Cost savings
“Then we started looking at cost reduction. We really looked at all aspects of IT. We looked at workstations, at the data center environment and at data storage. This ultimately resulted in cost savings totaling up to about 15 percent of our total IT costs.”
V-cloud
Ralph Noll is involved in this project as an account manager at SLTN. Ralph says: “We were commissioned to do an extensive analysis regarding cost reduction at Panteia. During the analysis we quickly saw a number of options for achieving this. We converted the current remote desktop workplace architecture into a modern workplace, where the laptop acts as a connection to the outside world. We also migrated the data storage from a dedicated cloud to a shared cloud, SLTN’s V-cloud. This means that the capacity deployed from our cloud is used by multiple customers. This allows efficient use of our cloud capacity.”
Microsoft 365
“The third point is the deployment of archive storage, where static data can be parked on cheaper storage. The fourth cost-reduction element in this story is the deployment of Microsoft 365, which includes Exchange Online. This means that all data now stored in SLTN’s data centers can be migrated to Microsoft’s cloud.”
Azure AlwaysOn and Guardian 360
Ralph continues: “Panteia has switched from direct access, which is facilitated from SLTN by Microsoft’s Azure AlwaysOn. It provides access to all Microsoft-related Cloud applications. Part of our current proposition to Panteia is also vulnerability management. This is not so much cost saving, but it is important to keep a close eye on the environment and be able to continuously see and act on the vulnerabilities of the environment. For vulnerability management services, we use Guardian 360.”
Adequate services
“We experience SLTN’s services as very adequate, especially at the data center level,” Marcel concludes. “Also how SLTN really thinks with us as a partner is very important to us. We are a research company where IT is an important component. Panteia is a data-driven organization and for this we really need a partner who thinks along with us about how we can and must deal with IT in the coming years. SLTN meets this need very well. We see the future as a partnership. We just extended the contract, so we’ll be stuck with each other for a few more years.”
